Frequently Asked Questions
Below are some common questions about accessing natural therapy consultations through Thrive Holistic Centre. Please note this is general information only and does not replace professional medical advice.
New to Natural Therapies?
If you’ve never used natural therapies before, we’ll guide you step-by-step so you feel confident and informed. Your doctor will explain all options, possible risks, and what to expect.
Switching from another Clinic?
We understand the frustrations with other clinics — long wait times, lack of personal connection, poor communication with pharmacies. We work to make your transition seamless with clear communication and timely care.
How can I access treatment?
To access treatment, you need to consult with an authorised prescriber who specialises in or is willing to prescribe. The authorised prescriber will determine if it’s suitable for your condition and apply for approval, if necessary, through the TGA. We can recommend that you contact us if you are interested in an appointment.
What conditions can this service support?
Our services can be used in treating conditions like severe epilepsy, chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, palliative care, chronic pain, sleeping disorders, anxiety disorders, and multiple sclerosis. However, its use isn’t limited to these conditions; doctors can prescribe it for other conditions if they believe it’s clinically appropriate.
Where will I receive my prescribed treatment?
You will receive your treatment via a pharmacy. You will have the option to either pick up your treatment directly or have it delivered to your home. Please advise your doctor of what solution works best for you.
Can children receive this treatment?
Yes, children can be prescribed our treatments if a doctor believes it is appropriate for their medical condition, often for conditions like severe epilepsy.
Is this treatment covered by the PBS (Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme)? What are the costs involved?
No, our treatments are not currently listed on the PBS, meaning patients must pay out-of-pocket for prescriptions.
Can I drive while using this treatment?
No, it’s illegal to drive under the influence of our treatment, which can impair your driving ability. Starting March 1st, in Victoria patients will be able to drive with detectable levels of THC in their system as long as they are not impaired, just as is the case for other medications such as valium, endone, or others.
How long does a prescription last?
The duration of a prescription varies, typically ranging from one month to three months, depending on the patient’s needs and the doctor’s assessment.
What should I do if my prescribed product seems off, spoiled, or already opened?
If something doesn’t seem right with your products, please take photos and bring it to the pharmacy where you got it as quickly as possible. They will be able to help you figure out what to do next.
How can I dispose of unused products safely?
Unused products should be returned to a pharmacy for proper disposal or follow local guidelines for substances.
Can I travel interstate with my prescription?
Yes, but you should carry your prescription and possibly consult with legal advice since laws can slightly differ by state.
Can I take my prescription on an airplane in Australia?
Domestic travel might be possible with documentation, but it’s highly recommended to check with your airline and carry your prescription. International travel with medical cannabis is generally not advised due to varying international laws.
What should I do if I feel like I’ve taken too much?
The first thing is to try and stay calm, the feeling will pass. Some things that can be helpful can be eating leafy greens like rocket, basil, lettuce, or kale or drinking orange juice. If this happens, please consult with your healthcare provider as soon as possible as your dosing probably may need to be adjusted.
